archiCentral has a lot of cool posts highlighting innovative architectural projects around the world. One post in particular – about the redesign of Korça, Albania’s city center – caught my eye. This massive urban design project is described by the architectural firm Bolles and Wilson as “‘scenographic urbanism’ – a choreographing of new buildings and public spaces, which pays close attention to the existing grains and potentials of this small but spatially complex city”. The whole idea is to revitalize five unique sectors in a way that integrates the spaces while retaining each sector’s essential character. The project hasn’t broken ground yet, but it should be interesting to see the effects that this urban renewal project will have on business and tourism in the city / nation as a whole.
